JENNY MULLINS

Fascinated by the spiritual dynamics between East and West and the expectations that form between cultures, Washington D.C.-based artist Jenny Mullins explores Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Sikh iconography through the prism of “spiritual tourism.” Traveling to holy sites throughout India, Mullins appropriates religious imagery in her elaborately detailed drawings, paintings and mechanized sculptures as it relates to an American culture obsessed with Eastern mysticism. Her observations are at once scholarly and parodic; Mullins probes the sacred and the divine with equal measure as the bogus and the kitsch.
